

In 1890 the plant was finished to the point where production could be moved from Covington. But on June 18th 1892, just after the factory had become well established, the plant was partially destroyed by fire, causing temporary interruption in production. Covington was revitalized and took over for a while. The Muncie plant was promptly rebuilt. The new plant was better then the old one! Covington was kept as a warehouse and sales office until 1919 but Muncie was the main headquarters and factory. Muncie and Covington where both operating for 2 years from 1888 and 1890. In early 1927 there was another fire, burning down the office building. The Muncie Hemingray plant was sold to Owens-Illinois in 1933. In 1972 the Owens-Illinois plant shutdown.
