On February 1, 1876, Julius Proeger patented a design for a bird-shaped relish dish which the factory produced in crystal, amber, blue, opal, and a pale pink glass simulating opaline. The tail of the bird made a convenient handle for the dish. The design patent was assigned to Robert Herningray of Covington, Kentucky,
